Konfabulator!
I am currently using eight widgets. Starting from the top left I have a search function, this has all the major engines. Below that is a weather widget. I guess that I have this incase I have too much homework, and can’t go outside and see what it is like for myself. Below that is a to do list, although I guess I forgot to put down “take over the world.” Just below that, just for kicks is as a small thing that links with the Department of Home Land Security to tell the current threat level. I guess that I need more fear in my life. I guess that this is a good time to be able to describe how some of these work. The Konfabulator has them all running, and has them periodically (depending on the task) run some sort of application. For example, the DHLS threat level, will at a regulated amount of time check at the DHLS site and see if it changes. The same with the weather widget, It seems to refresh itself every few minutes.
To the right of that column is the Yahoo! Word of the Day, with a window viewer just below that. The window viewer is cool, this just rotates through my pictures and pulls up random ones. I think I get a new picture every five minutes. What a great picture was up at the time I took this screenshot, Dan… Nice. The next column over has a clock. I made this opaque and so that floats above every other window. That means that I can see it no mater what program I am using, but I can see through it. Finally below that is just a simple calendar.
I think that the Konfabulator is a sweet program. I am slightly worried that having everything running could bog down my computer, but I haven’t seen anything different from normal yet. If you go and see the Widget Gallery, you can pick 523 different applications. A lot of them are things that I wasn’t interested in at all, but they are a lot of cool products out there.
